Pet-Friendly Fourth of July Recipes

The United States of America is celebrating 250 years of independence; your furry friend should celebrate too. Licking and chewing can have a soothing, anti-anxiety effect for pets sensitive to loud noises. Below are some amazing pet-friendly Fourth of July recipes
When using peanut butter or Greek yogurt, always ensure it is 100% xylitol-free, as this sweetener is highly toxic to pets.
Red, White & Blue Pawsicles
Ingredients:
○ ¼ cup of diced strawberries
○ ¼ cup of blueberries
○ Water or salt-free chicken broth
Instructions:
○ In a popsicle mold, add diced strawberries, then add blueberries,
making sure they are layered; finally pour water or
salt-free chicken broth to the top of the mold and freeze for 4-6 hours.
Chicken and Vegetable BBQ Skewers
Ingredients:
○ Chopped chicken breasts
○ Chopped carrots
○ Chopped sweet potatoes
○ Chopped bell peppers
○ Skewer
Instructions:
○ Place chopped chicken breasts, carrots, sweet potatoes,
and bell peppers on a skewer;
cook until chicken is at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
DO NOT GIVE PETS ONION OR GARLIC.
Remove the food from the skewer before giving it to the pet.
Leaving a dog with a sharp wooden or metal stick is a severe safety hazard.
Frozen Firework Yogurt Bites
Ingredients:
○ 1 Cup Xylitol-free Greek Yogurt
○ ¼ cup Blueberries
○ ¼ cup Diced Strawberries
Instructions:
○ Mix together greek yogurt, diced strawberries, and blueberries;
put mixture on tray or in mold (for more festive fun, use a star-shaped mold),
freeze for 4-6 hours.
Watermelon Ice Cream
Ingredients:
○ 2 cups of seedless, chopped watermelon
○ 1 cup xylitol-free plain greek yogurt
Instructions:
○ Blend watermelon until smooth,
○ mix watermelon puree with greek yogurt,
pour into mold and freeze for 4-6 hours
Dog Friendly Hot Dogs (Original Recipe from Chewy)
Ingredients:
○ 2 tsp powdered Parmesan cheese
○ ¾ cup of flour
○ 1/4 cup of water
○ 2 tbsp xylitol-free peanut butter
○ Dog treat of your choice (preferably in stick form, treat used in recipe)
○ Optional: Kong Stuff’N
Instructions:
○ Preheat the oven to 350 F.
○ In a bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup flour and the Parmesan cheese.
○ Add the peanut butter and water.
○ Stir until the mixture thickens, then use your hands to work it into a smooth dough.
○ Dust your work surface with the remaining 1/4 cup flour.
○ Roll the dough into a long log about 1 inch thick.
○ Cut the log into six 3-inch pieces.
○ Press a crease down the center of each piece lengthwise to form a “bun.”
○ Place the buns on a nonstick baking sheet.
○ Bake for 7–10 minutes at 350 F, or until the buns feel firm and look dry on the surface.
○ While they bake, cut dog treats into 3-inch “hot dog” pieces.
○ Let the buns cool for about 10 minutes, then tuck one treat stick into each bun.
○ Optional: Top each one with a squiggle of KONG Stuff’N Easy Treat
Bobbing for Berries
Ingredients:
○ Water
○ Blueberries
○ Strawberries
○ Raspberries
○ Blackberries
Instructions:
○ In a large bowl, add blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and top with water so the berries are floating. Give it to your dog and have them “bob” for berries.
Frozen Peanut Butter Cones
● Ingredients:
○ 1 ripe banana
○ ¼ cup xylitol-free peanut butter
○ ½ cup plain xylitol-free Greek yogurt.

Instructions:
○ Mash the banana and thoroughly mix with the peanut butter and yogurt. Stuff the mixture inside a KONG toy and freeze for 4-6 hours.
