GENERAL TRAINING COURSES

  • INTRO TO ANIMAL HANDLING

This course covers reading animal body language, the impact of human cues, the ladder of aggression, safe handling, proper leash walking, and essential equipment in animal welfare.

  • BREED BASICS

This course covers the AKC's seven breed groups, the impact of genetics on behavior, and the distinction between behavior and temperament. Learn about the risks of breed labeling and how to identify breed traits in dogs.

This course explores enrichment activities for dogs and cats of all ages, promoting mental and physical stimulation. Learn the benefits of interactive toys, frozen treats, scent work, training walks, and more to support each animal's well-being.

Cooperative care helps animals become willing participants in handling and husbandry. This course covers positive reinforcement, towel wrapping and desensitization to reduce stress and trauma.

This course covers the basics of how dogs learn, including operant and classical conditioning, LIMA-based training, marker training, and clicker use. It also explores problem-solving for common behaviors and the importance of exercise, mental stimulation, and communication.

The Humane Society of North Texas follows Dog's Playing for Life guidelines, emphasizing dog-to-dog socialization in shelters. This course covers playgroup integration, recognizing play styles, ensuring positive interactions, and safely handling scuffles. Includes a 30-minute presentation and 30 mines of hands-on instruction.
