Callie
When wildfires swept through Los Angeles, local shelters quickly became overwhelmed, and the Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) stepped up to help. I felt compelled to be part of their mission: to welcome displaced pets and give them a strong start here in Texas. By opening their doors, HSNT allowed L.A. shelters to make space for incoming injured and lost animals. That’s how I met Coffee.
Coffee was a sweet, resilient French Bulldog who had spent over a month in a Los Angeles shelter. She arrived in Texas underweight and in need of some medical attention, but from the moment I laid eyes on her, I knew she was something special. I opened my home to her as a foster, thinking I’d help her heal and move on when she was ready. But it didn’t take long to realize… she was already home.
During her time with me, Coffee received the veterinary care she needed to thrive, including her spay surgery, corrective airway procedures, and treatment for a previously undetected ovarian cyst. Through it all, she remained gentle and full of heart. Day by day, she blossomed—showing off her goofy charm, her spunky little attitude, and her unstoppable spirit.
We renamed her Callie, and she’s been part of our family ever since. At 5 years old, she’s got the energy of a puppy, the sass of a queen, and a tongue that just won’t stay in her mouth. She’s 17 pounds of pure joy and the perfect sister to our other dog, Frankie.
Adopting Callie has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. She’s a daily reminder of the power of second chances and the magic of fostering. I’ve never once regretted stepping up to help, and I hope her story encourages someone else to do the same.
Welcome home, Callie. You were always meant to be ours.
