Essential Functions of the Position
Reporting to the President, the Director of Development serves on the leadership team for the Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) and is responsible for raising funds to support the organization’s mission. The Director works collaboratively with peers to understand the operational needs of the organization and also helps ensure appropriate marketing materials are available to support development efforts.
The Director of Development is responsible for strategic and operational planning for individual giving (including major and planned gifts), corporate and foundation relations, capital campaign planning and execution, special events and managing budget priorities.
Key Responsibilities

Manage major gift and planned giving programs. Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors. Work collaboratively with the President and Board of Directors to identify potential donors, build relationships and grow HSNT’s donor base.

Develop and execute a capital campaign for building a new primary shelter for HSNT. Work with the President and Board of Directors to ensure the project is feasible and that sufficient funding is available for ongoing operations.

Direct overall fundraising programs including direct mail, online, social media, special events and corporate and foundation grants.

Ensure annual giving programs achieve objectives and are executed properly.

Oversee special events to ensure fundraising objectives are met.

Direct the efforts of the Development Manager regarding corporate and foundation grants, inkind donations and follow-up reports.

Develop and manage the financial budget for the development team. Prepare routine reports for the President and Board of Directors comparing actual results to budget and forecasts.

Work collaboratively with the Director of Communications to promote fundraising events and activities.

Stay abreast of emerging fundraising trends to improve HSNT’s effectiveness in saving the lives of animals and accomplishing its mission.

Recruit, train and motivate staff. Provide appropriate recognition and disciplinary actions. Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of this Position

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in major gift fundraising

Strong interpersonal and writing skills

Proven management and leadership skills

Ability to represent the Humane Society of North Texas in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, staff and the Board of Directors

Excellent organizational skills to ensure tasks are completed, goals are achieved and timelines are met Working Conditions
