74 Rabbits rescued from a Ft. Worth home during the Easter Holiday

FORT WORTH, TX (March 28, 2005) The Humane Society of North Texas removed 74 rabbits on Friday, March 25th from a South Fort Worth home. The rescued rabbits consisted of males, females and many newborns that were surrendered by the owner due to overwhelming circumstances. While in the owners care, the rabbits were properly maintained; however, 98% of the rabbits were not spayed or neutered. The population grew at an alarming rate in which the owner was unable to manage.

Each of the rabbits has been thoroughly examined by the HSNT veterinarian, all of which concluded in good health. The Humane Society is working diligently with local rabbit rescue groups to assist in offsetting the large number of rabbits received.

The Humane Society encourages the public not to make an impulse purchase of a live bunny as an Easter holiday gift. We want the public to consider that most bunnies given during this Holiday end up being neglected or abandoned once the newness wears off.

Those wanting to adopt a rabbit from HSNT are urged to educate themselves of rabbit ownership and be willing to make that long-term commitment. The rabbit adoption fee is $35 which includes the spay and neuter of your furry bunny. For more information on animal adoption, contact the shelter at 817-332-HSNT (4768) or log on to www.hsnt.net.
