HSNT's adoption fee for cats and dogs range from $50.00 to $285.00 based on the animal's age, breed, and length of stay. Adoption fees help to offset the cost for the care, spay/neuter procedure, microchip, and vaccinations. The Humane Society of North Texas adoption fee for dogs and cats includes:
Dog vaccinations (DA2LPPv) - (Canine distemper, hepatitis-adenovirus type 2, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, parvovirus), Intra-Trac II bordatella (kennel cough)
Cat vaccinations - FVRC/P (Feline rhinotracheitis, calici, panelukopenia, chlamydia psittaci)
First deworming - for hook & roundworms
Rabies vaccine - for dogs and cats over 12 weeks of age
Heartworm test - for all dogs over six-months (Direct & Occult Test for Microfilaria)
Spay or Neuter
Leash or cardboard cat carrier
* The adoption fee for animals such as rabbits, hamsters, birds, ferrets, and others vary and should be discussed with a counselor.
* If an animal has not been spayed or neutered at the time of adoption, we require a $100.00 cash deposit which is fully refundable when the animal is brought back for their spay/neuter surgery.
*HSNT does not hold animals and all adoptions are based on a first come, first serve basis.
Please note: We do our best to screen the animals we have available for adoption; however, there is always a chance that the animal is incubating a disease at the time of admission without showing any signs. If so, the vaccinations it received at admission would be ineffective in combating the disease.
Thanks to the generousity of participating veterinarians, HSNT is able to offer a free health exam within five days of adoption.
Dogs six months and older have received an occult heartworm test and are identified as being negative or positive. For those that are positive, HSNT's counselors will discuss treatment; and for those that are negative, we ask that you contact your veterinarian to begin heartworm preventative.
In most cases, cats have not been tested for Feline Leukemia nor vaccinated for Feline Infectious Peritonitis. Adopters should request these from your veterinarian.
Adoptable animals are held as long as health, behavior and cage space permits. There is no standard set time for adoptable animals to find their permanent homes.
Potential adopters will need to complete an application which will be reviewed by an adoption counselor. Please be aware that all potential adopters will need to meet the following requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Have current idenfication showing your present address
- Possess the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household
- Be willing and able to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical
treatment and proper care for the companion animal
